MEET GINGER:

GINGER STEDWELL-SMITH

Who is Ginger?

I’m Ginger Stedwell-Smith, a nurse practitioner with extensive experience in healthcare since 2006. Over the past 18+ years, I’ve worked across various specialties, including Cardiology, Hospitalist Medicine, Trauma ICU, Medical-Surgical, Alzheimer’s care, and Acute Care Mental Health. Through these experiences, I’ve gained a broad perspective on the healthcare system.

One key lesson I’ve learned? True patient care isn’t just about prescribing the perfect pill, ordering the right test, or diagnosing with precision. It’s about treating the whole person—mind, body, and soul—ensuring that each individual is truly seen, heard, and supported.

A Turning Point
In 2022, my perspective on healthcare shifted dramatically. Working in cardiology, I saw firsthand how many patients' needs were unmet. Each day, I left work feeling defeated—trying to fill the gaps of a system that often left little room for meaningful patient care. I stayed late, skipped meals, and worked tirelessly to provide the time and attention my patients deserved.
The biggest lesson? Listening, empathy, and addressing a patient’s core needs have the greatest impact. Many patients don’t just need a diagnosis—they need to be heard, understood, and supported with guidance tailored to their unique health journey. Healthcare should be personal and personalized to be truly effective.
Why Functional Medicine?
When I transitioned away from full-time cardiology, my mission became clear: helping people prevent cardiac events and chronic illness by addressing the root cause rather than managing the aftermath. My passion is people—I love to serve, support, and empower individuals on their health journey.
Functional Medicine allows me to provide individualized care, focusing on long-term wellness rather than quick fixes. I believe in offering a different perspective on health—one that helps you reach new heights you may not have thought possible.
Let’s Connect
My goal is not just to listen to you, but to truly hear you. I want to help you achieve your health goals in a way that feels both empowering and sustainable. That’s why I offer a free 15-minute consultation—so you can explore whether Functional Medicine is the right next step for you.
It’s important to note that Functional Medicine doesn’t replace Western Medicine. I encourage my patients to maintain strong relationships with their primary care providers and specialists. If needed, I collaborate with other medical professionals to ensure you receive the best care possible.
If you’re ready to take a proactive approach to your health, I’d love to help. Let’s work together to create a plan that prioritizes you.
Functional medicine is the ultimate form of preventative care. It views the body as an interconnected system, considering the complexities of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors.
Conventional medicine is typically disease-based and it focuses on enabling the person’s current lifestyle without the full understanding of long-term consequences. In conventional medicine, time and resources are limited and the practitioner doesn’t always have the time to explain specific lifestyle influences.
Functional Medicine, on the other hand, emphasizes individualized care by focusing the necessary time and attention on each patient. Functional medicine empowers individuals to take an active role in their health and it explores multiple options of care for different lifestyles and budgets.
